ARPwave Therapy

The ARPwave Clinic in the Twin Cities is where ARPwave Neurological Soft Tissue Therapy originated.  Just click the link below to visit their website for more details about how ARPwave works and what conditions are treated.  Reinecke Chiropractic Clinic is equipped and trained to perform all ARPwave treatments in our office.  ARPwave therapy is covered by most insurance companies.

In the last eight years, ARPwave technology has been perfected to restore strength to muscles weakened by latent inflammation. The skills that a chiropractor possesses dictate the patient's response to the adjustments rendered to the patient. It is the patient's response that plays a major role in rehabilitation and recovery. Just like a chiropractor knows the best response won't come from a physical therapy program that doesn't include spinal adjustments; it can't be expected that patients benefit from a rehab exercise that targets muscle groups that are not fully functional. ARPwave therapy restores muscular function so that strengthening may occur.

In addition to providing movement to the skeletal frame, the chief role of muscles is to absorb force. The more our muscles are like thick bungee cords, the more force our bodies can absorb. When our muscles resemble old weathered rubber bands, joint pain and joint wear is the result. Hence the concept: restore strength to weak muscles and JOINT PAIN IS ALLEVIATED. ARPwave treatment greatly speeds up the process of muscle strengthening.

With every injury to the body, cell membranes are damaged, and the natural electrical polarity of the body is disrupted. The result is a negative charge buildup within the injured tissue. This is good at first; it is the negative charge that initiates the healing process by attracting white blood cells and promoting the growth of scar tissue. However, if the negative charge buildup does not dissipate, it becomes a liability, causing the scar tissue to adhere to the muscle tissue. This embedded scar tissue within the muscle fibers makes it impossible for the muscles to elongate fully and hence to contract maximally, thereby weakening them. ARPwave direct current breaks up this scar tissue in an efficient manner.

The ARPwave RX100 is a proprietary electrical stimulation modality that delivers both micro-current as well as direct electrical current. The incorporation of the micro-current allows the use of the direct current at an increased level of intensity and depth of penetration with minimal discomfort.

The passage of the ARPwave direct current through healthy tissue causes only a mild sensation, but when the current flows through a scarified area with a negative charge buildup, the response is markedly uncomfortable. By delineating the areas of charge buildup, based on the degree of discomfort, the ARP trainer instrument actually determines the sites where treatment is required.

Once the primary areas of chronic inflammation are located, electrical stimulation pads are firmly attached and the patient is instructed to put the affected muscle group through a range of motion. With each repetition of movement, the discomfort from the flow of current decreases. As comfort levels allow, the intensity of the direct current is increased at regular intervals. The process is repeated - the patient performs specific maneuvers, their discomfort diminishes, and the ARP intensity is increased. Being able to increase current intensity is important because the more charge that is put into the area, the more negative charge buildup and chronic inflammation can be dissipated.

In Summary

  • The passage of direct current into the negatively-charged area reduces the negative charge buildup leftover from injury, whether acute or chronic.
  • As the charge is reduced, scar tissue sloughs off the muscle fibers.
  • Since the scar tissue is no longer adhering to the muscle fibers, the muscle is capable of increased eccentric contraction. In other words, it is able to lengthen.
  • Because the muscle can get longer, it is able to contract faster and stronger.
  • As a muscle is able to contract faster and with more force, it is better able to protect the joint to which it is attached, and less pain with movement is the result.
A requirement of ARP therapy is that the patient be balanced structurally and neurologically. In other words, they need to be adjusted prior to training with the ARP. A typical course of treatment involves 10 sessions. The first four deal with reducing inflammation and the last six involve regaining strength.

Once strength is regained the patients can continue exercising on their own to maintain their strength or build additional strength. By neutralizing inflammation and restoring full range of motion and strength to chronically weakened muscle groups, the benefit of rehabilitative exercise is greatly enhanced.

ARPwave Therapy has Three Steps
  • Balance the body structurally and neurologically.
  • Eliminate charge buildup resulting from trauma, whether it is old or new.
  • Regain strength in affected muscle groups.
What Types of Patients Receive Benefit From the ARPwave Therapy?

  • Whiplash
  • Chronic low back pain
  • Recent back injury
  • Headache
  • Sinus Headaches
  • As an alternative to knee and hip replacement
